Ronald Russell Sime
September 14, 1940 - May 2, 2016

Ron Sime, age 75, died on Monday, May 2, 2016, at his home in rural Rake, Iowa.

Ronald Russell Sime, a son of Russell and Lucille (Sprecher) Sime, was born on September 14, 1940, on a farm near Scarville, Iowa. A lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he was baptized and confirmed, he attended Rake High School, graduating in 1958.

During his high school years, Ronald and his family started the Sime Family Band where he played the trumpet and sang at numerous social events. Next, he began farming with his parents on the family farm East of Rake. Then, he joined the Army Reserve. Following his service, he returned to farming. For over fifty years, he played Taps at many military funerals and Memorial Day services.

In December of 1967, Ronald married Nancy Bye at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Scarville. Subsequently, they were blessed with three daughters, Wendy, Heidi, and Robin.

Ronald very seldom missed a softball, basketball, or volleyball game or one of his daughters’ track meets. Moreover, his grandchildren played a large role in his life. An avid Hawkeye and Twins fan, he, also, enjoyed drinking coffee and visiting with friends.

He is survived by his wife of forty-eight years, Nancy Sime, of Rake; three daughters and nine grandchildren, Wendy (Brandon) Melz, and their children, Bailey, Jordan, Kylie, and Regan, of Chanhassen, Minnesota, Heidi (Corey) Grafton, and their children, Lilly and Loretta, of Mason City, Iowa, and Robin (Brian) Charlson, and their children, Joseph, Emily, and Amy, of Leland, Iowa; three sisters, Lavonne Okleasik, of Nome, Arkansas, Lois (John) Forney, of Des Moines, Iowa, and Joan (Donald) Winter, of Lake Mills, Iowa; as well as by many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Franklin Okleasik.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, May 5, 2016, at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Kiester, Minnesota, with Pastor Katie Pals officiating. Burial will be in the Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery with the Rake American Legion Honor Guard in attendance. Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 4, 2016, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street in Lake Mills, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
