Dolores Jane Sandifer
September 14, 1933 - May 5, 2016

Dolores Jane Sandifer, 82, of Fertile, died on Thursday, May 5, 2016, at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt

Dolores, a daughter of August and Ernestine (Brandt) Jordan, was born on September 14, 1933, in rural St. Ansgar, Iowa. After attending and graduating from Fertile High School, she continued her education at Waldorf College in Forest City, where she graduated with a two year secretarial degree. Next, she worked at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota, for a period of time before marrying Ray Sandifer on October 20, 1953, at the Fertile Lutheran Church. Then, she worked for many years at Norwest Bank in Mason City until she retired in 1989. The long-time editor of the Fertile Reminder newspaper and an avid rook card player, she, also, liked playing the piano. In addition, she enjoyed the time she spent with her family, especially with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A long-time member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Forest City, Dolores served as treasurer and sang in the church choir. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Ray, of Fertile; her son, Rick Sandifer, and his wife, Kathy, of Bensalem, Pennsylvania; her granddaughters, Kelly Sandifer, of Hopatcong, New Jersey, and Kristen Ryland, and her husband, Stephen, of Lewisville, Texas, and two great-grandchildren, Claire and Calvin Ryland; and her brother, Raymond Jordan, and his wife, Deanna, of Fertile; as well as many nephews and a niece. She is preceded in death by her parents and her son, Gary Ray Sandifer.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, May 7, 2016, at the Calvary Baptist Church in Forest City with the Pastor Don Collings officiating. Burial will follow in Brush Point Cemetery, rural Hanlontown. Visitation will be held on Saturday, one hour prior to the services at the church. Memorials may be directed to the Calvary Baptist Church.
