U.S. Veteran Raymond Albert Westendorf, 92, formerly of Emmons, Minnesota, died on Wednesday, November 25, 2015, at his residence, Knutson Place, Albert Lea, Minnesota.

Raymond Albert Westendorf was born at home on September 10, 1923, in Buffalo Center, Iowa, to Ben and Ella (Alberts) Westendorf.

Ray attended country school in rural Winnebago county and graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1942. He was, then, drafted into the Army from 1942 through 1945 and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II.

On November 10, 1946, Ray married Norma Gladys Dahl at the Emmons Lutheran Church. Shortly after, on December 27, 1946, Ray was baptized at the Emmons Lutheran Church. The couple, subsequently, had two sons, Tom and John, and one daughter, Maureen.

Ray worked at Page & Hill Homes and Streaters in Albert Lea, Minnesota, for over thirty years where he became a lead man.

After retiring, Ray pursued his passion for gardening, bird watching, bowling, and keeping up with and watching sports, particularly the Minnesota Vikings, the Minnesota Twins, and the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Ray is survived by his two sons, Thomas Neal (Georgene) Westendorf, of Yukon, Oklahoma, and John Craig Westendorf of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; his daughter, Maureen Renae Westendorf, of Minnetonka, Minnesota; six grandchildren, Braden, Lucas, Brynn, Jessica, Jill, and Jamie; five great-grandchildren, Emma, Luke, Abel, Everett, and Kellen; one sister, Helen Pederson, of Cambridge, Minnesota; and one brother, Jack Westendorf, of Albert Lea, Minnesota.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Norma; his sisters, Minnie, Frances, Alice, Jeanette, and Ann, and one brother, Bennie.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM on Thursday, December 3, 2015, at the Emmons Lutheran Church with Rev. Christopher Martin officiating. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Emmons, Minnesota, with military honors conducted by the Louis/Tveite Post #317. Visitation will be on Wednesday, December 2, 2015, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street in Lake Mills and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.
