Lois Ann Olson
December 4, 1943 – October 19, 2015

Worthington, Minnesota

Lois A. “Kelly” Wooldridge was born on December 4, 1943, at Mercy Hospital in Mason City, Iowa, to Edward and Florence (Hamstreet) Wooldridge. She skipped one grade in middle school and later graduated as valedictorian from Forest City High School.

On March 3, 1962, she married Don R. Olson in Forest City, Iowa. For a short time, she took a job at the Minnesota-Ontario Paper Company in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and then joined Don at the Ft. Riley Army Base in Kansas. After their daughter was born, they moved to rural Ellsworth, Minnesota. While they were living there, their son was born. In 1972, the family moved to an acreage outside Ocheyedan, Iowa, and then later to Worthington, Minnesota. A homemaker, she, also, raised produce for local grocery stores for many years on an over two acre garden.

An active member of Indian Lake Baptist Church before multiple sclerosis prevented her from doing what she loved, Kelly served as a pianist, Sunday school and Bible school teacher, GMG (girls club) leader, and with the women’s ministry. She enjoyed gardening and raising flowers, reading, spending time with her grandchildren, camping, and interacting with the customers while working at the Ocheda Apple Orchard.

Kelly died on Monday, October 19, 2015, at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne, Minnesota, where the staff had treated her like family for the past five years.

Kelly is survived by Don, her husband of fifty-three years; her children, Kim Pekas, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Greg (Sheila) Olson, of Round Lake, Minnesota; three granddaughters, Kelsey (Tom) Kramer and Angela and Macy Pekas; two grandsons, Roy (Corrie) and Tyler (Trysten) Olson; and two great-grandchildren, Brynn and Gavin, with a third on the way. Lois was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Charles, Jim, and Bob.

Memorial services will be held Friday, October 23, 2015, at 11:00 a.m., at the Indian Lake Baptist Church, 31141 Roberts Ave., Worthington, Minnesota, with Pastor Jonathan Larson officiating. Burial will be in the Indian Lake Baptist Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday, October 22, 2015, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington, Minnesota.
