January 13, 1950 - November 06, 2015Robert Berl Patten “Bubba,” 65, of Lake Mills, Iowa, died unexpectedly Friday morning, November 6, 2015, at his home.
Bob, a son of Berl and Marjorie (Paulus) Patten, was born on January 13, 1950, in Mason City, Iowa. He graduated from Newman Catholic High School in 1968.
An avid car guy, he enjoyed drag racing with his friends in his youth. Of all sports, he liked watching NHRA races the most, especially when the legendary John Force was participating. In addition, he spent many weekends enjoying local car shows where he entered his highly detailed Thunderbird. Moreover, he liked keeping in touch with old friends, and he loved the moments he shared with his grandchildren.
From 1983 until 2006, Bob was employed at Winnebago Industries. There, he took on many different roles over the years. He worked as an assembler, as a welder, and finally as a forklift driver until he retired because of his declining health.
In 1973, Bob married Pamela Fink, and they, subsequently, had two children, Mindi and Bobby. Later, he met the love of his life, Dawn “Sue” Johnson. Sue added three daughters, Laurie, Christine, and Theresa, to the family. They married on October 7, 1994, in Fertile. After their wedding, they resided in Clear Lake before moving to Lake Mills.
Bob is survived by his wife, Sue; his children, Mindi Larson, of Clear Lake, Bobby (Tracy) Patten, of Thornton, Laurie Johnson, of Mason City, Christine (Bruce) Gerdes, of Ringstad, and Theresa Johnson, of Lyton; his sisters, Jean (Wayne) Roberts, of Clear Lake, and Joyce Romig, of Mason City; his grandchildren: (Mindi) Olivia, Lizzy, Bernie, (Bobby) Madison, Carter, (Christine) Jonathon, Zachary, (Lori) Taniesha, Dakota, (Theresa) Ashley, Samantha, Mackenzie, and Desiree; his nephew and nieces: Sherry (Ken) Carr, of Clear Lake; Carrie Davis, Vicky (Jim) Graf, Teresa (Doug) Hershey, Dan (Marsha) Tuttle, and Marjorie (Paul) Quintero, all of Mason City; and Susan (Todd) Fingalsen, of Nora Springs.
Bob was preceded in death by both of his parents; his mother- and father-in-law, Herb and Joe Isebrand; his brother-in-law, Larry Romig; his son-in-law Bjorn Larson; and granddaughter Natasha.
Funeral services (the family encourages everyone to dress casually) will be held at 1:30 PM Tuesday, November 10, 2015, at Church of Christ in Fertile, Iowa, with Pastor Denny Ganz officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, Monday evening, at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, Iowa, and again one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Manly, Iowa.
