Lynn A. Hill
July 28, 1945 - August 12, 2015Lynn A. Hill, 70, of Leland, died on Wednesday, August 12, 2015, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Lynn Aljean Hill, a daughter of Al and Marie (Buckles) Pyatt, was born on July 28, 1945, in Garden City, Kansas. She grew up in various towns around the West because of her father's career as a radio announcer and manager.
Lynn married early in life, and to that union, her first three children were born, Kelly Shane Goodwin, Christy Lynn Hill, and David Heath Hill. Then, in September of 1970, she married David L. Hill. Her fourth child, Kassie Marie Hill, was born to complete her family. Shortly afterwards, they bought the family farm on a hill West of Leland. There, she, along with her husband, David, and all her children, found great joy and laughter in their hard work while enjoying many memorable experiences.
Although Lynn loved the mountains of Wyoming where she was raised, she found she could love Iowa's soil as well. She could grow anything including vegetables, animals, friendships, and children. Every day, she relished the sun and wind in her hair as she was working in the garden, toiling on the hayrack, or just sitting on the porch. She loved to learn and never stopped throughout her life whether studying at school or reading from books. After earning her high school diploma, she went on to Waldorf College where she graduated magna cum laude with an art degree. Well known for her exceptional artistic abilities and her willingness to share her talents with others, she spent many years serving others. Active in 4H, the Leland Woman's Study Club, and the VFW Auxiliary as well as numerous other groups, organizations, and events, she, always, supported her husband, children, and grandchildren in their interests.
She is survived by her husband of forty-four years, David Hill, of Leland; her four children, Kelly Shane Goodwin (Gail), of Rexburg, Idaho, Christy Lynn Hill Miller (Shawn), of Victor, Idaho, David Heath Hill (Debbie), of Buckner, Missouri, and Kassie Marie Hill Steen (Allan), of Leland; nine grandchildren, Claire Ellen, Katie Anne, and Matthew Shane (McKenzie) Goodwin; Devin Michael and Duncan Alexander Hill; Madison Donn Miller; Levi David and Parker Steven Rogeness; and Nicole Ann Steen; and her sisters, Joyce Marie Casey and Kayne Pyatt, both of Evanston, Wyoming; as well as by many nieces and nephews.
Lynn was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Mary Jo Pyatt, Jackie Louise Keller, Albert Buckles Pyatt, and Ruth Ann Ballinger.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 P.M., Friday, August 14, 2015, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Leland with Lay Ministers Rose Visser and Jim Mantel of Immanuel Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will take place at a later date. A gathering of family and friends will be held one hour prior to services at the church. Memorials may be directed to the Lynn A. Hill Memorial Fund in care of the family.
