Gary L. George
December 23, 1939 - August 11, 2015

Born in Forest City, Iowa, Gary was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church. He attended and graduated from the Forest City school system and Waldorf College. While in high school, he worked on the VerHoef family farm near Forest City. Mrs. VerHoef made, he would always say, “the best peanut butter cookies in the world!” She shared the recipe with the George family many years ago, and it still remains the favorite cookie on the cookie tray. During his late teens, he worked at the Sieg Company in Forest City.

In 1961, Gary married Gloria Dyre from the Rockwell, Iowa, area. From this union, three children were born: Tammy, Teresa and Dan.

In 1965, Gary and his father, Carroll, started the first major industry in Worth County, Iowa, Carroll George, Inc. (CGI). They started their Northwood plant in a small building on the east side of town with just four employees. Over the next several years, they expanded the company to include 240 employees under a building covering two and three quarters acres. At first, they produced cushions and draperies for the recreational industry. Eventually, however, they expanded into making bucket seats for RVs as well as seats for minibikes, snowmobiles, and boats. After a few more years, they expanded again to include acoustical interiors for tractor cabs. In time, however, they, completely, replaced the RV business with full service OEM production, which included sound reduction interiors for “Off Highway Vehicles,” tractors, trucks, combines and other heavy equipment worldwide. The product line had expanded to include headliners, post covers, hard plastics, vinyl foam, and vacuum formed parts. Gary was very proud of each and every one of his employees and what they did to help the corporation succeed. He retired from CGI in 1998.

A 28 year member of the Northwood Volunteer Fire Company and a member of the Northern Lights Masonic Temple, Gary enjoyed fishing with his buddies in Minnesota and Canada, golfing, and woodworking, especially remodeling buildings.

He was preceded in death by his father, Carroll, and his mother, Elizabeth.

Gary is survived by his wife, Gloria; his daughters, Tammy Hain (significant other, Merlin Schafer) and Teresa (significant other, Jeff Zenz); his son, Dan (wife, Rita); his favorite grandchild, Brooke Elizabeth Parker (husband, Tim); and his brother, Gene (wife, Leanna); as well as by several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
