WODEN – Doryce E. Hanna, 79, of Woden, died on Wednesday, July 15, 2015, at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt.

Doryce Elaine Hanna, a daughter of Edmund and Mildred (King) Sorenson, was born on May 31, 1936, in Forest City. She attended Crystal Lake High School, graduating in 1953. On April 14, 1955, she married Bruce Hanna at the United Methodist Church in Crystal Lake. They lived in Maryland for a few years while Bruce served in the U.S. Army outside of Washington, D.C. In 1957, they returned to Woden where they farmed and raised their family. In 1991, they moved from the farm into Woden.

Doryce enjoyed spending time with her family, wintering in Mission, Texas, with Bruce, watching her grandchildren’s sporting events, going for walks, and singing in the Hancock County Choir. She will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her.

She was a member of the Woden American Legion Auxiliary and St. John’s Lutheran Church in Woden and a past member of Grant Lutheran Church.

Doryce is survived by her three daughters, Lori Hanna, of Seattle, Washington, Tammy (Scott) Johnson, of Britt, and Lisa (Doug) Swingen, of Woden; four grandchildren, Ryan (Katie) and Justin (Mary) Johnson, Megan (Corben) Schueler, and Matthew Swingen; four great grandchildren, Makayla, Brody, Lane, and Payton Johnson; her siblings, Dorothy (Garry) Brown, of Corwith, Paulette (Ron) Dahle, of Woden, Elizabeth Barnum, of Blaine, Minnesota, and Kenny Sorenson of Crystal Lake; her brother-in-law, LaVerne Holtorf, of Ankeny; and her sister-in-law, Marjorie Sorenson, of Britt; as well as by many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bruce, on June 5, 2001; an infant daughter, Tresa; and her sister, Marvella Holtorf.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 18, 2015, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Woden with Rev. S. Kim and Trudy Peterson officiating. Burial will be in Grant Township Cemetery near Woden. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, July 17, 2015, at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 310 Main Street, in Woden and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.
