Ronald LeRoy Langerud
October 22, 1935 - July 6, 2015

Ronald L. Langerud, 79, of Forest City, died at his home on Monday, July 6, 2015.

Ronald LeRoy Langerud, a son of Elmer and Bernice (Holland) Langerud, was born on October 22, 1935, at the Forest City Hospital. Raised on a farm three miles north of Forest City along HWY 69, he grew up with his first cousins, Vince, Chuck, and Karen. As a consequence, they became more like siblings than cousins.

Ron attended country school from kindergarten through the eighth grade. In 1953, he graduated from Forest City High School. During his youth, he attended West Prairie Church in Leland.

Ron married Joan Hill on May 27, 1955, at the Congregational Church in Forest City, one day before Roger and Mary Schaefer married. They have remained life-long friends.

Ron worked for Carl Larson in Fertile, Hansen Hardware in Forest City, Peterson & Son Construction in Leland, the Winnebago Housing Division and the Forest City School System as a bus driver. In addition, at one point, he owned and operated Langerud Plumbing and Heating in Forest City with Ron and Vince.

A past president of the Forest City Jaycees and a current and longtime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Ron, also, served on the Forest City Fire Department for over twenty-five years.

For more than thirty years, Ron loved spending time at his lake cottage at Lake Frances near Mankato, Minnesota. Moreover, he liked playing cards and games and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Ron is survived by his wife, Joan, of Forest City; two sons, Mark, and his wife, Kim Langerud, and Robert, and his wife Julie Langerud; his grandchildren, Samantha (Steve) Boucher, Dan (Tori) Langerud, Ben Langerud, Taryn Brumm, and McKinzie Langerud; and two great-grandchildren, Matthew and Tyler Boucher; as well as by many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Bernice Langerud and Karen Rollefson; and his parents-in-law, Merle and Edna Hill.

Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 P.M., Friday, July 10, 2015, at the Cataldo-Schott Funeral Home, 505 North Clark St., Forest City, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, July 11, 2015, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City with Pastor Jim Mantel officiating. Interment will take place in Grant Center Cemetery, rural Fertile, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City.
