Sharon L. Hegel, age 76, of Lake Mills, Iowa, died on Tuesday, June 30, 2015, at St. John’s Lutheran Home in Albert Lea, Minnesota.

Sharon Lee (Tordoff) Schwartz Hegel was born on June 14, 1939, in Armstrong, Iowa, to Russel Edward and Evelyn Mae (Caboth) Tordoff. She attended and then graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1957. Next, she attended airline school in Omaha, Nebraska. After completing her apprenticeship, she worked for Eastern Airlines and lived in New York State.

On November 2, 1958, Sharon married Howard Schwartz in the Bronx, New York. To their union, two sons were born, Robert and Scott. Howard passed away on Long Island, New York, on February 18, 1974.

Sharon moved back to the Midwest, spending time working at local restaurants and eventually retiring from Fleetguard Industries in Lake Mills. She married Ronald Hegel on November 12, 1966, in Lake Mills. They had one daughter, Angela.

Sharon loved her family very much. Indeed, she often did the planning for family get-togethers at the holidays and other special occasions. She enjoyed reading, collecting antiques, going to casinos, and having coffee with friends. She kept busy following her children and grandchildren in their activities and sporting events.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Robert (Kris) Schwartz, Scott (Anthoniette) Schwartz, and Angela Becker; her mother, Evelyn Tordoff; her grandchildren, Cole and Lydia Schwartz; Tara Hennigar and Jeff Spoelstra; Stephan Schwartz and Erin Mullenbach, Sable Schwartz and Michael Storby; Chance, Maxwell, and Sydney Becker; and Alexis and Jasmine Schwartz; her great grandchildren, Tyler and Eliot Spoelstra, Adrian and Weston Schwartz, and Scout Storby; and two brothers, Roger (Sandy) Tordoff and Russel (JoAnn) Tordoff; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Russel Tordoff, and her first husband Howard Schwartz.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 PM on Friday, July 3, 2015, at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills with Pastor Melinda McCluskey officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in Sunnyside Cemetery, Lake Mills. Visitation with her family will take place from 12:30 PM until service time at the church on Friday. Memorials may be directed to the American Lung Association in memory of Sharon Lee Hegel, 2030-73rd Street, Urbandale, Iowa, 50322.
