Dorothy Christianson
(February 8, 1935 - June 23, 2015)

Dorothy Christianson, 80, of Lake Mills, died peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, June 23, 2015, after a short battle with cancer and complications with diabetes.

Dorothy Elaine (Knudtson) Christianson was born on February 8, 1935, to Arthur and Rosecelia (Branstad) Knudtson in rural Winnebago County. Confirmed into the Lutheran faith at Immanuel Lutheran in Scarville, Iowa, she attended school in Fertile and Scarville, graduating from Scarville High School in 1952. For years, she helped plan the Scarville All-School Reunions.

On August 13, 1961, Dorothy married Clarence (Kelly) Christianson at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Scarville, Iowa. Together, they raised their seven children, Barbara, Gregory, Leon, Joel, Eric, Jay, and Thomas, in the rural Scarville area.

Dorothy graduated from La James Beauty School, cooked at the Lake Mills Care Center, and retired from Fleetguard in Lake Mills. An active member at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Scarville for over fifty years, Dorothy valued her faith.

She was a dedicated volunteer at the Lake Mills Senior Citizen’s Center, the Mills Theatre, and the Opportunity Village Store in Clear Lake. In 2014, she received the KIMT Giving Your Best Volunteer Award.

Dorothy was a wonderful baker/cook known for her famous donuts. A talented quilter and knitter, she made blankets for her grandchildren and annual Christmas washcloths for her family. She enjoyed attending all her grandchildren’s school events and was a familiar face in her specific seat in the Bulldog gym.

Survivors include her sons: Gregory (Joyce) Christianson, of Baxter, Iowa, and Leon (Jane), Joel (Marlys), and Eric (Kathy) Christianson, all of Lake Mills, Iowa, and Jay (Kara) Christianson, of Wells, Minnesota; her son-in-law, Tim (Sandy) Penny, of Owatonna, Minnesota; her daughter-in-law, Jody Christianson, of Lake Mills; two sisters, Mavis (Roger) Bolstad and Jean (Gordon) Hagen; and her brother-in-law Myron (Mike) Hill; twenty three grandchildren: Brook (Justin) Byars; Amber, Benjamin, Carlie, Carter, Carys, Cassie (fiancé Michael Johnson), Claire, Cody; Cole (Elizabeth), Courtney, Lars (Brittney), Lorraine, Nancy, and Jill Christianson; Erin Lau; Toni (Jared) Nicol; Jamison (Terra), Joseph (Mary), Marcus (Whitney),and Molly Penny; Kari (Brandon) Smith; and Kelsey (Eric) Williams; eighteen great-grandchildren: Betsy, Dottie, and Kit Byars; Carson, Quinn, and Tavi Christianson; Audrey, Jate, and Sadie Nicol; Elliott, Parker, Ramona, and Sonnet Penny; Maysen, Myah, and Mylie Smith, and Finch and Rooney Williams; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clarence (Kelly) Christianson; her daughter, Barbara Penny; her son, Thomas Christianson; her sister, Arlene Hill; her brother, Truman Knudtson; and her sister-in-law, Phyllis Knudtson.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, June 27, 2015, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Scarville, Iowa, with Pastor Randy Baldwin officiating. Burial will take place at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, rural Scarville. Visitation for Dorothy will be on Friday, June 26, 2015, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Opportunity Village, the Lake Mills Senior Center, or a charity of choice.

Blessed be her memory. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
