James (Jim) Edward Destival
December 15, 1963 - March 9, 2015

James “Jim” E. Destival, 51, of Forest City, died on Monday, March 9, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center of North Iowa in Mason City.

Jim was born in Harvey, Illinois, on December 15, 1963, to Dennis and Joan (Andreasen) Destival.

A hardworking man with a heart as big as a watermelon, Jim would listen to or help anyone in need. An amazing father to his two beautiful girls, Amanda and Angela, he considered them his greatest accomplishment. Extremely proud of them both, he told everyone who would listen what they were doing at the time. When Angela gave him the news she was having a boy this May, his face lite right up. "Finally, a boy!" he exclaimed. So excited to become a first time grandfather, he would, even, joke that he was too young to be a grandfather. Anyone and everyone could see the excitement on his face. He couldn't wait to teach his new grandson everything boys do, especially outside. Jim, truly, did have a heart of gold and would do anything for anyone if he could. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Jim enjoyed pretty much all outdoor activities and everything nature had to offer. He loved hunting, fishing, and watching NASCAR, especially when his driver, Jeff Gordon #24, won the race. Besides his two girls, his greatest joy was his deer head "Rock pile.” Ecstatic when he shot his first buck with a bow and arrow from the top of a rock pile, he would have taken that deer’s head everywhere with him if he could have.

Jim is survived by his daughters’ mother, Melinda (Celindro) Carpenter; their children, Amanda (Destival), and her husband, BMSN Gabriel Jimenez, and Jim's granddog, Panda, of San Diego, California, and Angela Destival, his future grandson, Tavin James Destival, and granddog, Bubba, of Forest City, Iowa; his siblings, Denise and Jeff Bredeson, of Fertile, Jodi and Howard Abbott, of Leland, Jenny and Dennis Richards, of Fairbanks, Iowa, Deanne and Jerry Greer, of Aarvada, Colorado, and his beloved brother, Dennis Destival, of Crystal Lake, Iowa; along with many, many friends, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 6:00 P.M., Friday, March 14, 2015, at the Cataldo Schott Funeral Chapel in Forest City with Father Kenneth Gehling, Chaplain – Mercy Medical Center of North Iowa, officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M., Friday, March 14, 2015, prior to the funeral service at the Cataldo Schott Funeral Chapel in Forest City. Inurnment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Jim Destival memorial fund in care of the family.

James was met in heaven by both his maternal and paternal grandparents and his parents, Dennis and Joan Destival.
