James D. Carson
June 17, 1948 - February 11, 2015James D. Carson passed away at his home in Madison, Wisconsin, on February 11, 2015, after a one-year battle with cancer.
Better known as both "Jamie" and "Carson,” James was born in Forest City, Iowa, on June 17, 1948, to Carroll and Esther (Johnson) Carson. He graduated from Forest City High School in 1966 and attended Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota. While serving in the US Army, he was wounded and then discharged. He earned a degree in nursing from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. On March 9, 1981, he married Mary Bumann.
His early interests in learning, traveling, and caring for animals remained lifetime passions, which he pursued with Mary in many ways throughout their years together. Most recently, he had earned a degree as a Nurse Practitioner in 2003. He served in that capacity at the Milwaukee VA Medical Center until 2014.
James was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, David Carson; David’s wife, Martha; and a nephew, Paul D. Carson.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; his brother, John (Nita) Carson, and their four children and families; his brother, Caroll (Janell) Carson, and their three children and families; and his niece, Kathy (Breck) McHan, and their two children and families; as well as dear friends, colleagues, and patients, who will all miss his generous love and care.
