December 1, 1946 - November 8, 2014FOREST CITY – Sherman H. Friesenborg, 67, of Forest City died on Saturday, November 8, 2014, at his home.
Sherman Harlow Friesenborg, a son of John, Jr., and Helen (Olson) Friesenborg, was born on December 1, 1946, in Buffalo Center. Confirmed in the Lutheran faith, he attended school at Buffalo Center Community School. On January 14, 1967, he married Valjean Severson in Lake Mills. To this union, four children were born: Lonnie, Laura, John, and Rhonda. Sherman and Valjean raised their family in Thompson where they attended Bethany Lutheran Church. Sherman owned and operated the Bricelyn Meat Locker and later worked for Hills Potatoes and A & B Welding, but he spent most of his career as a self-employed carpenter.
In July 1990, Sherman married Joyce Usher, of Nashua, Iowa, at a service in Dubois, Wyoming. He and Joyce loved living in Centennial, Wyoming, surrounded by the Snowy Range Mountains.
A gifted carpenter, Sherman designed and hand-crafted furniture and constructed residential and commercial buildings as well. In addition, he served many years as a firefighter with the Thompson Fire Department. Also an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed both hunting and fishing.
Sherman is survived by his children, Lonnie (Laura) Friesenborg, Laura (David) Kudej, and Rhonda Newby, all of Forest City; his grandchildren, Brennan and Mitchell Friesenborg; Anton, Josef, and Sophia Kudej; Parker Albrant; and Jacob Newby; a sister, Joyce Johnson, of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and a cousin and best friend, Tilman (Karen) Friesenborg, of Golden City, Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce; an infant son, John; and his parents, John and Helen Friesenborg.
A memorial visitation will be held from 4:30 P.M. until 5:30 P.M., Wednesday, November 12, 2014, at the Cataldo Schott Funeral Home in Forest City. A Scriptural wake service will follow the visitation at 5:30 P.M. with Fr. Dennis Miller of St. James Catholic Church officiating. Memorials may be directed to the Sherman Friesenborg Memorial Fund which will be used to establish a scholarship in the carpentry field at Forest City High School.
