Clarence Francis Van Hove
(December 31, 1925 - October 18, 2014)U.S. Veteran Clarence Francis Van Hove, 88, of Lake Mills, Iowa, formerly of rural Thompson, Iowa, died on Saturday, October 18, 2014, at the Lake Mills Care Center in Lake Mills, Iowa.
Clarence Francis Van Hove was born on December 31, 1925, in German Township, Kossuth County, Iowa, a son of Ted and Bina (Tjaden) Van Hove. Baptized and confirmed at Good Hope Lutheran Church, Titonka, Iowa, he attended country school.
Clarence served in the United States Army during World War II in the European Theater from 1944 to 1945.
On February 21, 1949, Clarence married Esther Irene Anderson at Liberty Lutheran Church in Rake, Iowa. They made their home in rural Woden, Iowa, where they began farming. In 1960, however, they moved to rural Thompson, Iowa, Eden Township, Winnebago County, Iowa. Clarence especially enjoyed raising and caring for livestock. Indeed, he had a long career of farming before 2012 when he and Esther retired to Mills Harbour in Lake Mills, Iowa.
A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Clarence, also, actively participated in community affairs. A member of the Kiester American Legion, a Master Pork Producer, and an area conservation award winner, he served on the Thompson School Board, the Trinity Church Council, and the Rake Elevator Board as well as on various other township boards and committees.
He will be missed by his family which includes his loving wife, Esther; his sons, Donald (Cathy) Van Hove and Allan (Teresa) Van Hove, both of rural Thompson, Iowa; his daughter, Cheryl (Corey) Herrick, of rural Lake Mills, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Jason (Julie) Van Hove, of Story City, Iowa, Kyle (April) Van Hove, of Thompson, Iowa, Kristin (Landon) Luttrell, of Katy, Texas, Kelly (Dan) Wright, of Des Moines, Iowa, Mara (Kyle) Frerichs, of rural Buffalo Center, Iowa, Jeremy (Shannon) Herrick, of Austin, Minnesota, and Annie (Jeff) Dixon, of Queen Creek, Arizona; twelve great grandchildren; his sisters, Florence Spear, of Titonka, Iowa, Sylvia Kiburz, of Bedford, Iowa, and Caroline (Alfred) Stenzel, of Iowa Falls, Iowa; and one brother, Sylvester (Wanda) Van Hove, of Cedar Falls, Iowa; and one sister-in-law, Lalonie Van Hove, of Des Moines, Iowa; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter; three brothers, Merlin, James, Ted; and one sister, Wilma Wubben.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, October 22, 2014, at Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Thompson, Iowa, with Pastor Katie Pals officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Tuesday evening, at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, Iowa 50450, and again one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, rural Thompson, Iowa, with military rites by Kiester American Legion Post #454.
