Iven Richard Norstrud, a son of Ole and Stella (Larson) Norstrud, was born on March 14, 1921, in Forest City, Iowa. On October 19, 1940, he married Florence Krambeer at the United Methodist Church in Britt.
Iven joined the Army after graduating from Forest City High School. He served in World War II and remained on active duty from 1939 to 1949. He was the commander of the Army Reserve unit in Garner until 1965.
After his discharge from the army, Iven returned to Britt and went to work for the Britt Co-Op as a mechanic. His ability for solving engineering problems soon led him to join the Britt Tech Corp as the head of their research and development department. As a result of his work, he came to hold over five patents for valves and mechanisms for hydraulic pressure washers.
He started Norco Manufacturing Company to build the parts he had created originally for Britt Tech. After retiring from Britt Tech, he continued expanding Norco Manufacturing to build parts for several other companies. He closed the door of Norco in July of 2010 at the age of 89. Shortly after the death of his wife, he moved to Florida to live with his son.
Left to cherish his memory are his son, Terry, and his wife, Rita, of Fernandina Beach, Florida; his grandchildren, Tam, and her husband, Randy Oettchen, of Gladbrook, Iowa, Deb, and her husband, David Eickholt, of Woodbine, Iowa, William Hochhaus and Anet Ranaldo, of Los Angeles, California, Julie Hochhaus, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Sheila Norstrud, of Yulee, Florida, and Andrew Norstrud, and his wife, Judy, of Tampa, Florida; his great-grandchildren: Emily, Brandon, Adam, Richard, Eva, Jane, Spencer, Megan, Kayla, and Nicholas; along with his sisters, Ila Martin, of Mesa, Arizona, and Ruth Friest, of Muscatine, Iowa.
