Maxine Nelson
(January 18, 1922 - August 13, 2014)

Maxine Nelson, age 92, of rural Northwood, Iowa, died on Wednesday, August 13, 2014, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa.

Maxine (Moe) Nelson was born on January 18, 1922, in Lake Mills, Iowa, to John and Anna (Twedt) Moe. Baptized on February 2, 1922, by Pastor John Hanson and confirmed on June 14, 1936, in Scarville, Iowa, by Pastor S.J. Fretheim, she attended and graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1939.

On September 11, 1940, Maxine married Jimmie Nelson at Silver Lake Lutheran Church. They made their home farming in rural Northwood, Iowa. Jimmie passed away in 1975.

Maxine was a loving homemaker and a hard working farm wife. She enjoyed flower gardening, camping, riding around the farm on her golf cart, and dancing. In fact, she met her beau, Raymond Oleson, at a dance over thirty-five years ago.

Taking care of her family over the years brought Maxine great joy. She always acknowledged birthdays, holidays, anniversaries, and other special days with cards for all her loved ones. A wonderful cook, she made amazing German chocolate cake and beef roast among other specialties.

Survivors include her daughter, Sandra (Gary) Thompson, of Albert Lea, Minnesota; her partner, Raymond Oleson, of rural Northwood, Iowa; three grandchildren, Dan (Jeannie) Tenold and Brenda (Scott) Moretz, all of Northwood, Iowa, and Mike Thompson, of California; and her great-grandchildren, Tanner Iseminger; Colton and Casson Moretz; and Kelsey and Tiarra Tenold; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and friends.

Maxine is also survived by Ray’s family: two daughters, Roxanne (Rick) Gordon of Plymouth, Iowa, and Shelly (Pete) Apel, and of Rudd, Iowa; as well as three grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jimmie Nelson; her daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Robert Tenold; five sisters; and one brother.

Visitation for Maxine will be held on Sunday, August 17, 2014, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM on Monday, August 18, 2014, at Silver Lake Lutheran Church, rural Northwood, with Pastor Randy Baldwin officiating. Burial will take place in the Silver Lake Lutheran Church Cemetery.
