Mae Lackore
January 25, 1907 - May 7, 2007

FOREST CITY - Mae Lackore, age 100, of Forest City, died on Monday, May 7, 2007, at the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City.

Mae Taylor was born on January 25, 1907, in Toledo, Iowa. In 1916, she moved to the Forest City area, currently Pilot Knob State Park. She attended Forest City Country Schools and baby sat for many families in the area. As a young adult, she lived in an apartment and worked at the Forest City Canning Factory.

On March 6, 1932, Mae married Lorn H. Abbott. Two children were born to this union, Marian in 1934 and Marvin in 1940. Mae and Lorn farmed in the Forest city area until 1958 when Lorn suddenly passed away. In 1963, Mae married Clarence Lackore. They lived in Hayfield, Iowa, until 1970 when they moved to Forest City. Clarence passed away in 1986. Between 1985 and 1999, when she moved briefly to the Lake Mills Care Center, Mae lived at the Town Square apartments in Forest City. She, then, moved to the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City in October, 2000, living there until her death.

Mae is survived by her daughter, Marian (Jim) Narveson (grandsons, Eric (Jane) Narveson and Kurt (Karen) Narveson and great-grandchildren, Andrew, Thomas, and Kiersten Narveson, all of the Santa Clara, California area); her son, Marvin (Patty) Abbott (grandchildren Anna (James) Thorson, Sara Ewing, Howard (Jodi) Abbott, Christopher and Peter Wonsmos, and Mathew Abbott (Jenny Maddox) and great-grandchildren, Samantha and Bart Dugan, Seth, Todd and Tyler Thorson, Ashley Ewing, Jacob, Joshua, and Madison Abbott, Allyssa, Taylor, Bethany, Megan, Andrew, and Jack Wonsmos); as well as by many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Mae is preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, Lorn H. Abbott and Clarence Lackore, and her grandson, Merle Abbott.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 2, 2007, at 1:00 PM at the Shelter House at Pilot Knob State Park east of Forest City, Pastor Barb Spaulding of Immanuel Lutheran Church officiating. A private family inurnment will take place at a later date at Rose Hill Cemetery in Thompson. The family requests that memorials be directed to the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City.
