Woden - Merle Richard Gibson, born in Winnebago county, March 12, 1920 [1900 Note age given at end]. He was the only son of two children born to the Richard Gibson home and lived all of his life in the vicinity of his birth. He was given spiritual nurture thru the training of the home and the local church and Sunday school. He was baptized by the Rev. Arthur Tomkinson of Titonka in 1913 at which time Rev. Tomkinson was preaching in the local M. E. church. Merle later joined the Methodist church at Buffalo Center where he was a member at the time of his death.
He was educated in the local school, grew up with many contemporaries of his age in this vicinity and was married to Miss Olive Wentworth on June 8 and they immediately established their home in this vicinity. To this union was born five children, Ardella, Luverne, Eunice, Ruby and Wanda Mae.
After prolonged illness, Merle was granted a sweet release thru God's mercy on Friday morning, November 30, 1934, at the age of 34 years, 8 months and 18 days.
He is mourned by his parents, Mr.and Mrs.Richard Gibson; his wife, five children and a host of other relatives and friends.
Merle's only sister preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Monday, Dec. 3, at the local M. E. church with the Rev. Ralph Baker in charge. Burial was at Buffalo Center. Pallbearers were Henry Meyers, Charles Christensen, John Rudisill, Henry Bode, Carl Sunde and Henry Orthel.
