December 6, 1909 - October 13, 2006Marie A. Hodson, age 96, of Forest City, formerly of Crystal Lake, died Friday, October 13, 2006, at the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City.
Marie Anna Helm was born on a farm in Bingham Township, Hancock County, Iowa, on December 6, 1909, the daughter of Herman and Gebka (Gayken) Helm. She received her education in a rural school near her home.
On October 31, 1931, she married Donald Hodson in Albert Lea, Minnesota. The couple made their home in Crystal Lake their entire married life. Marie was a hardworking and loving mother. She enjoyed crocheting and loved to sew clothing for her family. For several years, she worked at Nelson’s Grocery Store in Crystal Lake. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Crystal Lake and the Crystal Lake Senior Citizens Club.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Marlene and Sam Kaduce, of Forest City; a sister, Alma Mitchell, of Buffalo Center; a daughter-in-law, Lynette Hodson, of San Antonio, Texas; four grandsons, two granddaughters, four great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; five brothers; six sisters, one of which was her twin; and her son, Richard.
Funeral service will be on Tuesday, October 17, 2006, at 10:30 AM at the Crystal Lake United Methodist Church in Crystal Lake, Iowa, with Pastor Jerald Swanberg officiating. Burial will be at the Crystal Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Monday, October 16, 2006, at the funeral home and an hour prior to services at the church.
