Milton (Jim) Sime
(July 27, 1911 - February 8, 2007)

Milton (Jim) Sime, age 95, of Lake Mills, passed away on Thursday, February 08, 2007, at the Lake Mills Care Center in Lake Mills, Iowa.

Milton was born in Winnebago County, Iowa, on July 27, 1911, to Olaf and Andrine (Hauge) Sime. Baptized and confirmed by Rev. S.J. Fretheim at Bethel Lutheran Church, Vinje, Iowa, he received his education in rural schools in Logan Township and in Scarville, Iowa.

On March 26, 1939, Milton married Selma Wogen at Bethel Lutheran Church with Rev. S.J. Fretheim officiating. They farmed in Winnebago County for many years before retiring when they moved to Lake Mills, Iowa.

Milton was an active member of Bethel Lutheran Church. Later the family transferred to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Kiester, Minnesota, where he held offices on the church council. He loved music and belonged to several church choirs. He especially enjoyed singing in a men’s chorus at Our Savior’s Church, which he did for many years. Both Milton and Selma also much loved square dancing. They were avid square dancers in the area and also in Pharr, Texas, where they spent seventeen winters.

A devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather, Milton always tried to attend his children’s school and church activities. He was very proud of their achievements. As a 4-H leader and a Winnebago County Fair Board member for twenty-seven years, he also enjoyed working with young people in the area.

Passionate about farming, Milton loved it, worked hard at it, and always did his best. Indeed, he received state recognition for his champion dairy herds. He was particularly proud of the award he received for the top herd in milk production in the state of Iowa for two consecutive years. Grateful to the Lord for giving him the strength, knowledge, and perseverance to do well in his life, he always gave thanks.

Survivors include his wife, Selma, of Lake Mills, Iowa; his children, Beverly, and her husband, Arlyn Harang, of Camano Island, Washington, Larry, and his wife, Sandy Sime, of Littleton, Massachusetts, Linda Sime, and her husband, Steve Hering, of Eugene, Oregon, Arlo, and his wife, Susan Sime, of Lakota, Iowa, and Mark, and his wife, Kimberly Sime, of Mason City, Iowa; eleven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and six great grandchildren; a brother, Wayne, and his wife, Erlis Sime, of Albert Lea, Minnesota; a sister, Marjorie Fjone, of Kiester, Minnesota; and two sisters-in-law, Elaine Sime, of Kiester, Minnesota, and Evelyn Sime, of Minneapolis, Minnesota; along with nieces, nephews, and numerous cousins.
