(May 22, 1911 - January 10, 2013)

Alice Gena Bidne, 101, of Lake Mills, Iowa, formerly of Emmons, Minnesota, died Thursday, January 10, 2013, at the Lake Mills Care Center in Lake Mills, Iowa.

Alice Gena (Thompson) Bidne was born on May 22, 1911, to Ole and Sena (Kilvang) Thompson, in Becker County, Minnesota. She was baptized on July 16, 1911, by Pastor P.B. Trelstad at the Atlanta Lutheran Church in Becker County. On May 2, 1926, she was confirmed at the Emmons Lutheran Church by Pastor O.T. Storaasli. In 1919, she moved with her family to Twin Lakes, Minnesota. She attended school district #43 through the 8th grade. After her schooling, she worked as a hired girl in many area homes.

She married Alfred Bidne on September 10, 1932, at the Lutheran parsonage in Albert Lea, Minnesota. Together, they farmed first by Scarville, then west of Emmons where they bought land in 1936. They continued to farm there until they retired to a new home in Emmons in 1972. Shortly after they celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary, Alfred died in 1983. One of the first in 1999 to move into the new Mills Harbour Assisted Living facility in Lake Mills, Iowa, Alice loved her time at “the Mill,” drinking coffee and playing cards with friends.

A very kind and fair lady, Alice loved spending time with her family. Baking lefse and flatbread for family events, she celebrated her Norwegian heritage.

Those left to cherish her love and memory include her two sons, Larry (Donna) Bidne, of Lake Mills, Iowa, and Dean (Debbie) Bidne, of Ankeny, Iowa; two daughters, Ruth (Bob) Bullock, of Owatonna, Minnesota, and Mary (David) Segar, of Fairmont, Minnesota; her daughter-in-law, Rosetta Stern, of Sun City, Arizona; her sister, Maxine Gavle, of Albert Lea, Minnesota; her sisters-in-law, Cora Honsey, of Albert Lea, Minnesota, and Edith Thompson, of Twin Lakes, Minnesota; sixteen grandchildren; thirty-five great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred; her son, Marlin; her brothers, Clifford and Duane; her sister, Norma Vermedahl; and her parents Sena and Ole Thompson.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, January 14, 2013, at the Emmons Lutheran Church in Emmons, Minnesota, with Rev. Dr. Cathi Braasch, STS, officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Sunday evening, January 13, 2013, at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, and again one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place at Lime Creek (Stateline) Cemetery in rural Emmons, Minnesota.
