Eleanor M. (Swenson) Hanna, 79 of Lake Mills, Iowa, died Tuesday, March 04, 2008, at the Lake Mills Care Center in Lake Mills, Iowa.

Eleanor Mae (Swenson) Hanna was born March 29, 1928, in Grant Township rural Woden, Iowa, the daughter of Ole and Malena (Olson) Swenson. Eleanor was baptized at Grant Church, rural Woden, on May 27, 1928. In March 1939, the family moved to a farm north of Scarville, Iowa. She was confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Scarville, Iowa, on June 20, 1943.

Eleanor attended school in Scarville, graduating from high school in 1946. After graduating, she worked for various housewives, cleaning and cooking. On July 4, 1948, she married Reuben Hanna at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Scarville. They moved to their farm northwest of Lake Mills where they subsequently resided for nearly sixty years. Eleanor helped on the farm some, but spent most of her time caring for their seven children. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking, and doing embroidery work. An active member of North Prairie Lutheran Church until its closing in 2003, she then joined Salem Lutheran Church. In December, 2005, she moved to the Lake Mills Care Center.

Eleanor is survived by her husband, Reuben; her children: Doug (Candy) Hanna, of Lake Mills, Claran (Daryl) Stevens, of Albert Lea, Marcia (Joe) Holt, of Northwood, John (Cortnie) Hanna, of Lake Mills, Janet (Kevin) Hebrink, of Lake Mills, Bob (Sandy) Hanna, of Geneva, Minnesota, and Lisa (Terry) Durby, of Leland; her nineteen grandchildren: Amy, Megan, Jeff, David, Tony, Chad, Kristine, Joshua, Craig, Kayla, Ellie, Wyatt, Kyle, Keith, Wade, Amanda, Spencer, Joran, and Ty; her nineteen great-grandchildren: Mallory, Reese, Kara, Drae, Ashten, Brett, Mya, Royce, Caitlyn, Laney, Beau, Jack, Zane, Caden, Carly, Danielle, Paige, Noah, and Jaiden; and her two sisters, Marilyn Smit and Janice (Gary) Wilt, of LaPorte City, Iowa, as well as several nieces, nephews, aunts, and in-laws.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents; her brother in-law, Gerald Smit; and her granddaughter, Stephanie Hanna.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM, Friday, March 7, 2008, at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills, Iowa, with Pastor David E. Jordon officiating.
Visitation is from 4:00-7:00 PM, Thursday evening, at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home and again an hour prior to the service at the church.
Burial will take place at North Prairie Lutheran Cemetery in rural Lake Mills, Iowa.
