(November 16, 1933 - September 25, 2008)Marlin “Marlie” V. Anderson, 74, of Joice, Iowa, died Thursday, September 25, 2008, at the Muse Norris Hospice Unit in Mason City, Iowa.
Marlin Vance Anderson was born on November 16, 1933, in Thompson, Iowa, to Walter and Stella (Holtan) Anderson. He attended Thompson Community School, graduating with the Class of 1952.
On November 21, 1954, he married Ellen Haroldson in Joice, Iowa.
Marlie loved baseball. A pitcher in high school, he later played legion baseball in the Border Line League in Kiester, Minnesota. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing. Especially close to his grandchildren, however, he loved his family above all else.
Marlie worked for Brones Livestock, AA Saxerud, and Winnebago Industries. At one time, he owned and operated the Joice Lumber Company. During his retirement, he enjoyed working at the Rice Lake Country Club.
Active in the Joice community, Marlie served on the city council, the Betterment Committee, the church council, and the Joice Fire Department.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ellen, of Joice, Iowa; three children, Marla (Bill) Seda, of Traer, Iowa; Deb (Buzz) Wirt, of New Prague, Minnesota; Michael (Rachel) Anderson, of Spencer, Iowa; six grandchildren, Ben, Randie and Joe Wirt and Mark, Nora and Brian Seda; three brothers and their wives, Dean and June Anderson, of Forest City, and Don and Donna Anderson and Norrie and Betty Anderson, all of Thompson, Iowa; a sister, Delores Anderson, of Thompson, Iowa; and two brothers- and sisters-in-law, Acey (Bonnie) Haroldson, of Urbandale, Iowa, and Sidney (Patsy) Haroldson, of Richfield, Minnesota.
He was preceded in death by his parents and mother-in-law, Evelyn Haroldson.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM, Saturday, September 27, 2008, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Joice, Iowa, with Pastor Bill Peters officiating.
Visitation is from 5:00-7:00 PM, Friday evening, at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home in Lake Mills and again one hour prior to the service at the church.
Burial will take place at Concordia Cemetery in rural Joice, Iowa.
