February 26, 1921 - November 29, 2011

FOREST CITY - Ila Mae (Stansberry) Hall, 90, went home to her eternal rest on Tuesday, November 29, 2011, from the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa, after suffering a brain stem hemorrhage at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Forest City, Iowa.

Ila Mae was born on February 26, 1921, near Farson, Iowa, in Wapello County. She was the firstborn of Raymond Lloyd and Olie Opal (Sauer) Stansberry. She graduated from Farson High School in May of 1938 and from teachers training at Northeast Missouri State College in Kirksville, Missouri. She worked at Hallmark in Kansas City, Missouri. From there, she went on to teach in country schools in the area of her birth until she married Glen Francis Hall on March 3, 1946, in Farson, Iowa.

Ila Mae was a long time resident of Forest City, Iowa, where she and her husband, Glen, moved after their retirement. They were both active in the Forest City Baptist Church. Prior to living in Forest City, they both served as teachers in Klemme, Iowa, (Ila Mae taught first grade there from 1966 to 1975), Sac City and Nemaha, Iowa.

Ila Mae was an avid gardener and belonged to the local Garden Club. She also enjoyed Bible studies and Christian Women's Club activities. She loved cooking and had an extensive recipe collection. During her later years, she read and put together jigsaw puzzles and enjoyed the activities at Forest Plaza Assisted Living in Forest City where she resided for many years.

Ila Mae is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Charles Raymond and Julie (Schulz) Hall, of Ankeny, Iowa; and her daughters and sons-in-law, Doris Ann and John Duane Wallenburg, of Rock Valley, Iowa, Mary Frances and Peter Fredrick Jacobs, of Yorktown, Virginia, and Susan Kay and Matthew Marlow Modeland, of Woodburn, Iowa; eight grandchildren as well as eight great grandchildren; her siblings, Bonita Vashti Eagan, Frances Louise and Arthur Edward Allen, and Rex Irvin Stansberry; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her son, John David.

In accordance with the family's wishes, memorials, in lieu of flowers, should be sent to Hospice of North Iowa, 232 2nd St SE, Mason City, Iowa 50401.

Memorial services will be on Friday, December 2, 2011, at 1:30 PM at the First Baptist Church in Forest City, Iowa, with Pastor Doug Snyder officiating. There will be no visitation. Inurnment will be in Competine Township Cemetery in Wapello County, Iowa, at a future date.
