Shirley Furst
(December 15, 1943 - October 9, 2011)

Shirley M. (Hofbauer) Furst was born December 15, 1943, in Buffalo Center, Iowa, to George and Dorothy (Radmaker) Hofbauer. She grew up in Buffalo Center and graduated from the Buffalo Center High School in 1962. Shirley, then, went on to cosmetology school at La’ James School of Cosmetology in Mason City, Iowa, and graduated from there in 1963.

Shirley was blessed with three children: Kristilyn, John, and Denise. While raising her children, she also owned and operated a beauty shop in Buffalo Center and Lakota for many years. She also owned a ceramic shop in Spencer, Iowa, at one time.

A very dedicated grandmother, she considered it her most important job in life. Her hobbies included doing crafts and ceramics, sewing, cooking, and baking. She also loved gardening.

Shirley is survived by her children: Kristilyn Hunter, of Albert Lea, Minnesota, John (Shannon) Furst, of Clear Lake, Iowa, and Denise (Michael) Johnson, of Titonka, Iowa; her siblings: Forrest (Karen) Hofbauer, of Estherville, Iowa, Ronald (Ruth) Hofbauer, of Sebring, Florida, Jim (Joyce) Hofbauer, of Buffalo Center, Iowa, Keith Hofbauer, of Titonka, Iowa, and Judy (Al) Boeckholt, of Buffalo Center, Iowa, as well as eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Dale Hofbauer; and her sister-in-law, Carol Hofbauer.

Services for Shirley will be Wednesday, October 12, 2011, at 10:30 AM at the First Congregational Church in Buffalo Center.

Visitation will be Tuesday evening, October 11, 2011, from 5:00-7:00 PM at the church and one hour prior to the service.
