Josephine “Jo” Head passed away Thursday, October 13, 2011, at the Timely Mission Nursing Home in Buffalo Center, Iowa.

Born on September 27, 1926, in rural Buffalo Center, Iowa, to John and Lena (Johnson) Badje, she grew up on a farm near Rake, Iowa.

On September 11, 1946, Jo married William Mayland. They were blessed with three daughters: Elaine, Donna, and Laura, whom they raised on their farm in rural Titonka, Iowa. The family lost a great father and husband in January 1972. Afterwards, Jo worked as a store clerk in Woden, Iowa, for several years before she married Sig Estebo in June 1979. They lived in Albert Lea, Minnesota, until Sig passed away in June 1982. Jo, then, decided to live closer to her daughter, so she moved to Marion, Illinois, where she met and married Don Head in November 1987. Don passed away in December of 2007.

In March 2011, Jo moved back to the Buffalo Center area where she was a resident of the Timely Mission Nursing Home. She received great compassion and care from their staff.

Jo enjoyed dancing, baking, and playing cards with the grandkids. She considered her role as mother, grandmother and great grandmother her most important jobs.

Jo is survived by her three daughters: Elaine (Dan) Fauske, of Anchorage, Alaska, Donna (Mike) Monchino, of Herrin, Illinois, and Laura (Gerald) Zwiefel, of Burt, Iowa; seven grandchildren: DJ (Gretchen) Fauske, Scott (Danielle) Fauske, Matt (Nicole) Monchino, Jason (Erin) Monchino, Mike Monchino, Justin Zwiefel, and Ashley Zwiefel; two great grandchildren: Madison Monchino and Carter Fauske; a sister, Bertha Irons, of Buffalo Center, Iowa; three brothers: John (Arelly) Badje, of Albert Lea, Minnesota, Carl (Joanne) Badje, of Blue Earth, Minnesota, and Joe (Mary) Badje, of Rake, Iowa; and a sister-in-law, Janice Badje, of Buffalo Center, Iowa, as well as many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; three husbands; one brother, Lawrence Badje; and one sister, Jennie Swalve.

Services will be at 1:30 PM on Monday, October 17, 2011, at the Zion Lutheran Church Rake, Iowa; visitation from 12:00–1:30 PM Monday at the church; and interment at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Titonka, Iowa.
