Hilma Singelstad
(July 30, 1929 - August 13, 2011)Hilma Singelstad, age 82, of Lake Mills, died Saturday, August 13, 2011, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa.
Hilma Singelstad was born on July 30, 1929, near Lake Mills, Iowa, the daughter of Ole and Anna (Nesthus) Singelstad. She was baptized at the Winnebago Lutheran Church, rural Lake Mills. She was confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church and was a very active, lifetime member there. Hilma attended and subsequently graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1948.
Hilma worked at a downtown Lake Mills store for a time, after which she went to work at a local law office. She worked for several attorneys, most recently for Richard Schwarm until her retirement.
Hilma loved her Norwegian heritage and traveled to Norway four times to visit relatives and places of interest. She also liked to sew and do ceramics. Hilma, along with her special friend, Don Bergo, enjoyed planting flowers and gardening.
Survivors include her sister, Margit Rodahl, of Long Lake, Minnesota; five nephews, Mark (Cindy) Rodahl, of Wayzata, Minnesota, Brian (Dorothy) Hess, of Issaquah, Washington, Eric Hess, of Issaquah, Washington, Jon (Pearl) Singelstad, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Pastor Steve (Carol) Singelstad, of French Lick, Indiana; two nieces, Sharyl Singelstad and Linda Singelstad, both of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a dear friend, Don Bergo of Lake Mills, Iowa; and several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Agathe Nesthus, who helped raise her; her parents, Ole and Anna Singelstad; a brother, Chris Singelstad; and a sister, Aagot Hess.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM on Wednesday, August 17, 2011, at the Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills with Pastor David E. Jordon officiating. Burial will take place in Salem Memorial Cemetery, rural Lake Mills.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.
