Dana Simmons
(October 22, 1961 - July 5, 2011)

Dana Ernest Simmons was born in Britt, Iowa, on October 22, 1961, to John and June (Stewart) Simmons. He attended school at Hill City, Minnesota, and then moved to Iowa to begin working for Jim and Bill Swearingen.

Dana married Sharon Kay Mathahs on June 11, 1981, at the United Methodist Church in Thompson, Iowa. They had three daughters: Terri, Alida, and Laurie.

Dana worked for Jim and Bill Swearingen for several years and then went to work for Red Lodin for several more years. He was also a volunteer with the Thompson Fire Department. After leaving his job with Red Lodin, Dana worked for A&B Welding in Thompson until his passing.

On Tuesday, July 5, 2011, he unexpectedly departed from this life at Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa. He was forty-nine years old. Always willing to lend a helping hand, he had a huge heart. Dana enjoyed hunting and fishing, working on cars, and spending time outdoors. An amazing husband, father, grandfather, son, uncle, brother, cousin and friend, Dana will always be deeply missed and loved, not forgotten, by all who knew him.

Dana is survived by his wife, Sharon; his daughters: Terri (Matt) Beckman, Alida (Matt) Sandberg, and Laurie (Travis) Lawson. His mother, June Simmons, his siblings: Stewart (Gerri) Simmons, Todd (Susan) Simmons, Neil (Tina) Simmons, Kevin Simmons, Johny Simmons, Diedre (Ray) Johnson, Kym Greensky, Sara (Tony) Holmes, Shellie (Bob) Kovanen. His grandchildren, Mikayla and Jaymie Simmons, Riley Cobb, Cael and Lilly Beckman and baby Lawson as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Simmons; his sister, Debra Simmons; his nephew, Chad Simmons; his niece, Marcella Simmons; and his grandpa, Ernest, and grandma, Metta Stewart.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM, Saturday, July 9, 2011, at the Thompson United Methodist Church with Pastor Deb Devine officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Thompson.

Visitation will be Friday, July 8, 2011, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the church.
