Louis Jay Arnold
(November 30, 1928 - March 31, 2011)Louis J. Arnold, 82, of Lake Mills, Iowa, died Thursday, March 31, 2011, at his home in Lake Mills, Iowa.
Louis Jay Arnold was born on November 30, 1928, to Jay and Beulah (Blanshan) Arnold in Des Moines, Iowa. He attended several schools in the state of Iowa, graduating from Forest City High School at the age of 16.
He married Joyce Hobbs on September 3, 1950. Louis farmed his entire life, mainly north of Joice, Iowa. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting fox and coyotes. After retiring from farming, Louis and Joyce moved off the farm and into Lake Mills on September 28, 2002.
During his retirement, Louis could be found at Don’s Motor Mart having coffee, driving around looking at wildlife, or at the town library. An avid reader, he had practically read all the books in the Lake Mills Library. Louis also enjoyed keeping an eye on the local bald eagles and watching the wildlife right in his backyard.
Louis is survived by his loving wife, Joyce, of 60 years; his children, Mark (Cathy) Arnold, of Lake Mills, Beth (Rodney) Stene, of Lake Mills, and Jay (Jan) Arnold, of Cokato, Minnesota; several grandchildren, Renae Stene, and her fiancé, Phillip Hager, of Buffalo Center, Iowa, Adam (Rachel) Stene, of Spirit Lake, Iowa, Derek (Rua) Arnold, of Mason City, Iowa, Josh Arnold, of Lake Mills, Krista Arnold, and her fiancé, Travis Hyatt, of Spencer, Iowa, Michael (Brandi) Buschman, of Kiester, Minnesota, and Erica Maas of Thompson, Iowa; and his great-grandchildren, Trinity Buschman, Logan Brown, Hannah Maas, Aubrianna Hyatt, Halo Buschman, and soon-to-be, Baby Stene. He is also survived by a sister, Shirley (William) Everding, of Titonka, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Teda Wysong, of Patton, Pennsylvania, and Cynthia (Norman) Pechacek, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Randy Arnold; and a brother-in-law, James Wysong.
Louis will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM on Monday, April 4, 2011, at the Asbury United Methodist Church in Lake Mills with Pastor Wendi Gillan officiating. Burial will take place in Sunnyside Cemetery, Lake Mills.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Sunday, April 3, 2011, at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
