Marjorie Peterson, age 95, of Lake Mills, formerly of Ankeny, Iowa, died Friday, March 25, 2011, at the Lake Mills Care Center in Lake Mills, Iowa.

Majorie J. Peterson was born February 13, 1916, in Lake Mills, Iowa. She married Leslie Peterson on November 27, 1941.

Mrs. Peterson was an elementary school teacher for many years. She attended Concordia College in Minnesota and began her teaching career in a country school (Burnap) outside Lake Mills, Iowa. Upon graduating from Drake University, Des Moines, Iowa, she taught elementary education for many years in the Ankeny School District, Ankeny, Iowa, from which she later retired.

Marge was an active member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Ankeny, Iowa, where she enjoyed her role as Choir Director for 14 years and her membership in the Martha Circle for several years. Marge was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma.

Her greatest joys – education and music – were exemplified in many areas of her life.

She also enjoyed bird watching, especially robins. She loved traveling and especially enjoyed the beauty of an oak tree.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Mary D. Adams, of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Diane Brackey, of Lake Mills, Iowa; her grandchildren: David Ekman, of Burlington, Iowa, Nicole Segura, of Lake Mills, Iowa, and Michael B. Adams and Kara Adams, both of Las Vegas, Nevada; and six great-grandchildren, Jessica, Valerie and Christen and Sarah, Rachel and Jacob; along with nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Leslie Peterson; her son, Steven Peterson; a grandson, Scott Brackey Peterson; and three sisters, Phyllis Sprecher, Jakie Wallace and Lorraine Frank.

Memorial service will be 11:00 AM, Tuesday, March 29, 2011, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 517 SW Des Moines Street, Ankeny, Iowa, 50023-2805, phone (515) 964-4348, with Pastor Rick Biedermann officiating.

Graveside service with inurnment following will take place at 4:00 PM, Tuesday, March 29, 2011, at Salem Memorial Cemetery, Lake Mills, Iowa, with Pastor David E. Jordon officiating.
