Betty Jean Gudmonson
(August 28, 1927 - January 15, 2011)Betty J. Gudmonson, age 83, of Lake Mills, died Saturday, January 15, 2011, at the Lake Mills Care Center in Lake Mills, Iowa.
Betty Jean (Loge) Gudmonson was born on August 28, 1927, in Blue Earth, Minnesota, to Hans and Mildred (Shuttleworth) Loge. She was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church in Blue Earth and confirmed at the First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea, Minnesota. Betty attended schools in Blue Earth and Albert Lea as well.
On May 30, 1948, Betty was united in marriage with Vernon Gudmonson at the First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. The couple made their home in rural Scarville where Vernon farmed and Betty loved being a farm wife. The couple sold Watkins products for a number of years. In addition, they enjoyed going to neighborhood picnics, dancing, and attending the Iowa State Fair.
Betty was so proud of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. As the grandchildren were growing up, Betty and Vernon attended as many of their sporting and FFA activities as they could. In later years, the couple kept up to date on the happenings in Lake Mills through the window of their car on Main Street or by what they heard at The Grand Café.
Betty was well known for her wonderful sugar cookies and donuts, both made from scratch. She would bake her confections to sell at the local farmers' market and for people that placed special orders as well. Honorary pallbearers will be everyone who enjoyed Betty’s sugar cookies.
She will be missed by her family including her husband, Vernon; her two sons, Duane (Judy) Gudmonson and Dennis (Kris) Gudmonson, all of Lake Mills, Iowa; her four grandchildren, Cory (Jenny) Gudmonson, of Nicollet, Minnesota, Lenise (Ryan) Kollasch, of Algona, Iowa, Sarah (Tyler) Roelfs of Iowa City, Iowa, and Andy (Lindsey) Gudmonson of Lake Mills, Iowa; and four great-grandchildren, Caden Kollasch, Austin Kollasch, London Roelfs, and Karson Gudmonson. Betty is also survived by three siblings, Ann (Lyle) Hanson, of Albert Lea, Minnesota, Gene (Ila) Loge, of Albert Lea, Minnesota, and Terry (Barb) Loge, of El Paso, Texas; and by three sisters-in-law, Donna Loge, of Albert Lea, Minnesota, Deloris Loge, of Alexandria, Minnesota, and Pat Pederson of Albert Lea, Minnesota; as well as by numerous nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers, Mike Loge, Marion Loge, Bill Loge, and Andy Loge.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 PM on Tuesday, January 18, 2011, at the Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills with Pastor David E. Jordon officiating. Burial will take place at the North Prairie Cemetery, rural Scarville, Iowa.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Monday, January 17, 2011, at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.
