Funeral services were held last Thursday for Jerry Voortman at the Linden Church, Pastor Norman H. Tungseth officiated. Mrs. Helmer Hauan was soloist at the service. The male quartet of the First Reformed Church of Buffalo Center also brought numbers in song. Pastor Nels Flugum of Forest City brought a brief greeting to the family and the assembled friends. The following served as pallbearers: Albert Frerichs, Millerd Brue, Darley Goranson, Johnny Doden, Adolph Hartman and Oscar Nelson. The Winter Funeral Service was in charge of the arrangements.

Jerry Voortman, a long time resident of this community, passed away at his home on Monday, September 26, at the age of 56 years, after a lingering illness. He was born in Loquard, Germany on February 25, 1904. His parents were Mr. and Mrs. K. Voortman. At the age of 19 he immigrated to this country and since then has resided in the Buffalo Center Community.

On February 3, 1938, he was united in marriage to Martha Onken. This union was blessed with 4 sons. He is survived by his wife and four sons, Clarence, Arnold, Harold and Richard. His father, 2 sisters and 3 brothers in Germany also survive him. His mother and two brothers preceeded him in death.

Mr. Voortman was a member of the Linden Lutheran Church, where he served faithfully on the board of deacons for several years. He was a highly respected citizen, and industrious farmer and a good neighbor. The community as a whole will mourn his passing. He was interned [sic] in the Graceland Cemetery of Buffalo Center, there to await the resurrection morning.
