January 22, 1957 - November 15, 2010

Monte Swanson, age 53, of Forest City, died Monday, November 15, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City, Iowa.

Monte Carl Swanson was born in Britt, Iowa, on January 22, 1957, son of Ronald and Darlene Swanson of Crystal Lake, Iowa. He graduated from Crystal Lake High School in 1975.

On June 2, 1979, he was united in marriage with Jody Bolinger at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City. The couple made their home in Forest City where they became members of the First Baptist Church.

Monte carried on the Swanson Trucking name for many years; working alongside his father and also his son, Shane. He could be seen driving down the road and every now, and then you would get a friendly swerve from him.

Monte loved spending time with family and friends, riding his Harley, and helping Shane with racing. His family was everything to him, and he especially loved being called “Papa”. He never missed his kids’ events.

Monte was always the first one available when you needed a helping hand, unless his Vikings or Hawkeyes were on. He never passed up a cup of coffee or a conversation. Around his house on holidays, he was always known for his “dad jokes;” they never made much sense, but they made him laugh. His laugh could always bring a smile to your face. We will cherish all of his memories.

Monte will be greatly missed by his wife, Jody, his children: Shane (Maggie) Swanson of Forest City, Rachael Swanson of Forest City, Ashley (Chad) Lunning of Grantsburg, Wisconsin, Thomas Swanson of Forest City and Samuel Swanson of Forest City. Also surviving are 2 grandchildren: Trayce Swanson and Brayden Lunning, his parents, Ronald and Darlene Swanson, a brother, Rodney Swanson, several special nieces and nephews, and many, many friends.

Funeral service will be held at 1:30 PM on Thursdsay, November 18, 2010, at the First Baptist Church in Forest City with Pastor Eric Weaver and Pastor Doug Snyder officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 PM on Wednesday, November 17th at Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark Street, Forest City. Visitation will continue an hour prior to service at the church.
