Jerry Wayne Severson
(March 4, 1938 - November 18, 2009)

Jerry Wayne Severson, 71, of Scarville, IA, died Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at the Vinje Pub and Grill in Vinje, IA.

Jerry Wayne Severson was born March 4, 1938, on a farm in Norway Township, Winnebago County, rural Scarville. He was the son of Carlyle “Virgil” and Juleta H. (Bye) Severson. He was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Scarville, IA. He was confirmed June 29, 1952, at North Prairie Lutheran Church, Hinchliffe, Saskatchewan, Canada by Pastor M.A. Steiestol. He graduated from Scarville High School in 1956.

On October 10, 1957, he was married to Theresa “Tessie” Marie Ross at the Baptist Church, Bricelyn, MN. They were married 52 years. They were blessed with seven children, Curtis, Julie, Lyle, Monty, Faith, Alena, and Sabrina.

Jerry farmed for his Uncle Harold Bye, worked in Wells, MN, at the Creamery, then moved with his family to Red Deere, AB, Canada. He returned to the states working in cement construction and house construction. He then worked in Capco at Winnebago, Ind., Forest City, IA, for eight years, farmed for Larry Smith, returned to Winnebago, Ind. in ship out, where he retired at sixty-two. He then worked part time at the Vinje Pub.

Jerry loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, trapping, and farming.

He took annual trips to Canada to see his family and go fishing. A special place was the Severson homestead in Preeceville, Saskatchewan.

He loved singing and playing his guitar and harmonica. Telling jokes and stories and playing pool with his teammates in pool league. He loved going to Lansing, MN, to watch the stockcar races. Jerry was a dog man, he loved his Blue-Tick Hounds (Rattler) and Labradors.

Surviving members of his family include his wife, Tessie; seven children: Curtis (Arlene) Severson, Denver, CO, Julie (Gregory) Rice, Lake Mills, Lyle Severson, Macon, MO, Monty (Ann) Severson, Swaledale, IA, Faith Larson, St. Louis, MO, Alena (Terry) Bangs-Haag, Swaledale, IA, and Sabrina (Eric) Lium, Emmons, MN; thirteen grandchildren: Sage and Kyle Severson, Nicholas and Tyler Rice, Jade Maynard, Adam Severson, Jonathan (Kattie) Severson, Myra and Brandy Severson, Todd (Catrice) Wickham, Shannon “Cody” Wickham, Sarah Haag, and Trinity Renchin; five great-grandchildren: Adrian Severson, Austin and Ethan Severson, Gillian Maynard, and Jordyn Wickham; his mother, Juletta Severson of Calgary; sister, Barbara Pollock of Calgary; and two brothers, Marvin (Ruth) Severson, BC Canada, David Severson of Calgary.

He was preceded in death by his father; sister, Bonnie as an infant; a brother Ronald Severson; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Severson and Betty Severson; and a brother-in-law, Robert Pollock.

Memorial service will be 2 PM Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Scarville, IA, with Pastor Randy Baldwin officiating.

Family will greet friends at the church one hour prior to the service.

Inurnment will take place at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery near Scarville, IA.
