Steffensen Obituary

Christian Steffensen was born to Nels and Jakobine Sophia Steffensen December 17, 1852, in Haraldsted, near Ringsted, Denmark, and he passed away at his home in Forest City, December 6, 1938, attaining the age of 85 years, 11 months, 19 days. Mr. Steffensen's mother died when he was thirteen years of age. In 1872, at the age of twenty, he emigrated to this country, locating in Racine County, Wisconsin. While there he was admitted to membership in the Scandinavian ME church of which he was a faithful member until his death. Mr. Steffensen married Sarah Hansen at Sioux City, Iowa June 12, 1880. They lived in Wisconsin until the year 1888 when they moved to Forest City. His wife, who was born on the Island, Langeland, Denmark, December 28, 1852, preceded him in death December 22, 1918. Four children survive: Elmer, Fullerton, California; Leslie, Riverside, California; Mabel and Ella, Forest City, Iowa. Also four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. One brother and two sisters also survive; Ludvig Steffensen, Forest City; Mrs. Thrine S. Hoffman, Racine, Wisconsin; Mrs. Anna S. Larson, Stow, Massachusetts. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the home and at the Scandinavian Methodist Church by Rev. C. H. Petterson. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery.
