Dean Housken, 68, Huxley, formerly of Lehigh, died Tuesday, March 21, 2000 at his home in Huxley. Funeral services will be held Friday at the Chapel of Carson Funeral home in Dayton with Rev. Karl Reinagel officiating. Burial will be in the Washington Lutheran Cemetery in Duncombe, with military rites by the Donald Harper Post #5720 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Lehigh. The family will greet friends from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Dean J. Housken, son of Clarence and Florence Simpson Housken, was born Dec. 27, 1931 at Duncombe. He attended Lehigh High School and graduated in 1950. He married Verna Bailey on July 7, 1957 in the Little Brown Church at Nashua. He was a 30-year employee of George A. Hormel Packing in Fort Dodge. In 1984, the couple moved to Des Moines to manage the Conlon Apartments for 10 years, retiring in 1994. After retirement, they moved to Berwick, and in 1998 moved to Huxley.
He was a member of the Donald Harper Post #5720 Veterans of Foreign Wars in Lehigh, and the American Legion in Des Moines.
Survivors are his wife, Verna; mother, Florence of Dayton, three daughters, Machelle Westbrook of Huxley, Sheila Klaver of Huxley and Sherri Angstrom of Stratford; nine grandchildren, sister, Beth Hay of Lehigh and a brother, Robert Housken of Bermuda Dunes, CA.
A memorial fund has been established to the American Heart Association.
