“Ernest Olson, 50, is Accidentally Shot And Killed”

“Ernest V. Olson, 53, Food products salesman, accidentally shot and killed himself late Friday as he was entering a field near here to go rabbit hunting.

Webster County Coroner Welch Laufersweiler said Saturday that Olson apparently got out of his car, slipped and fell. The jar of the fall evidently discharged the hunter’s shotgun, Laufersweiler said.

The accident happened on a country road southwest of Fort Dodge. Coroner Laufersweiler called to the scene late in the afternoon, said Olson was dead when he arrived.
Olson is survived by his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Charles Clifford of Valparaiso, Ind.; a grandson David Clifford; one sister, Mrs. Carl R. Olson of Fort Dodge; and two brothers, Elmer H. Olson of Chicago, Ill., and Herbert C. Olson of Tacoma, Wash.

His parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Gust Olson of Fort Dodge, one sister and three brothers preceded him in death.

Born in Fort Dodge on August 27, 1898, Olson attended the local schools. He was married to Miss Lillian Hinrichs on May 20, 1923, in Fort Dodge.

He was employed by the Fort Dodge Creamery company here for about 20 years. Seven years ago he became a salesman for the Kraft Foods distributors and two years ago he accepted a position with the Crescent Macaroni and Cracker company of Davenport. He was that firm’s sales representative for Fort Dodge and vicinity.

Olson was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran church in Fort Dodge.
He was an enthusiastic sportsman, avidly interested in both hunting and fishing.

Funeral rites for Mr. Olson will be held Monday afternoon at 1:30 at the Guenther funeral home. The Rev. Ad Shewidder, pastor the church will officiate.
