Fort Dodge, Messenger, Jan 27, 1899

John Crosby, an old resident of Webster County, who resided near Holaday Creek, was stricken with paralysis while coming to the city Tuesday and died about 11 o'clock, shortly after reaching the home of his daughter Mrs. N.C. Albee. He had started out in the morning feeling well, with the intention of visiting his daughter. When near the city, he was stricken with paralysis. When he reached his daughter's house, he was taken out and borne within, where he expired about 11 o'clock.

Mr. Crosby was 72 years old. He was an old solider [Co. I, 24th Iowa Infantry] and well known in Webster County. His sudden and tragic death will awaken regret all over the county.
