PIONEER GOWRIE RESIDENT DIES AT HOME SUNDAY

Special to The Messenger

GOWRIE, Iowa, July 8.--Frank Triplett, aged 73, a pioneer resident of Gowrie for the past 49 years, died at his home here Sunday afternoon as a result of a paralytic stroke which occurred Sunday morning, following a slight stroke on Memorial day.

Mr. Triplett came to Gowrie in 1880 after being graduated from the college of law of the State university and for the next two years he practiced his profession and taught school.

Many of the present residents of Gowrie remember him as their teacher.

The little village of Gowrie at that time did not offer much to one in his profession, and he took up the carpenter trade with E.W. Sorber.

His health had been frail for the past year or more and he gave up heavy work to enter the chicken business.

During his residence here he has been assessor, member of school board, active in musical organizations and a member of the Congregational church choir for many years.

Since the death of A.N. Smith in January he has been justice of the peace.

Though quiet and unassuming, Mr. Triplett has always been active in civic affairs and has done his share in making Gowrie history. He showed keen interest in the annual community fairs and in spite of the handicap of frail health he always assisted Mrs. Triplett with the art exhibit and won premiums on his poultry and vegetables.

Mr. Triplett was married at Gowrie to Imogene Sorber, daughter of the late E.W. Sorber, Civil war veteran and pioneer furniture dealer. He was a member of Rose lodge No. 506.

Mr. Triplett is survived by his wife and five children, Mrs. Jay Beckon, of Carson, Washington; Mrs. Gordon Hulett, of Englewood, California; Mrs. Lester Carr, of Gowrie; Clare Triplett, of Los Angeles, and Earl Triplett, of Omaha.

Other surviving relatives are four brothers, Howard Triplett, of Grinnell; Monsieur Triplett, of Brooklyn; Aquilla Triplett, of Amarillo, Texas, and Dr. L.B. Triplett, of Pasadena, California; a sister, Mrs. Fred Littlefield, of Hutchinson, Kansas, and eight grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements have not been made.
