Obituary

Martha Lydia Peters died at her home in Ft. Dodge, Wednesday, November 22, 1899, aged 73 years, 3 months and 15 days.

Martha Lydia Irwin was born in Clearfield, Pennsylvania, August 7, A.D. 1826; was united in marriage to Harris Peters, of Unionville, Pennsylvania, September 6, 1849. To this union were born nine children of whom four sons and three daughters remain with her husband to mourn the loss of a devoted wife and mother.

The children’s names are as follows: J. L. Peters, Winterset, Iowa; C. J. Peters, Earlham, Iowa; Mrs. D. W. Illsley, Dundas, Minnesota; Mrs. H. C. Lunney, St. Paul; O. H. Peters, A. A. Peters and Mrs. E. P. Sanders, of Ft. Dodge. Her children were all at her bedside during her last illness. There are also 24 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

She has been a devout Christian since the age of 16 years, and for the past 20 years has been a member of the Adventist church. She died happy in the Lord. Her last words were “all is well. Come Lord Jesus and come quickly.” She died a firm believer in the second coming of Christ, the time when those who are sleeping in Jesus shall awake to immortal bloom ever more to die again.
