Lela Evelyn (Knox) Haglund, 86 of Webster City died Thursday, March 6, at home. Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 11, at the First Baptist Church in Webster City. Burial followed at Lehigh Cemetery in Lehigh.

Lela was born Aug. 21, 1921, at Jewell, the daughter of Charles and Hattie (Hildahl) Knox. She graduated from Webster City High School in 1939.

She met Carl Haglund and they were married Nov. 25, 1942, at the Stratford Lutheran Church in Stratford. The couple moved to Alleman in 1953 and she was employed by the Alleman schools and later worked at Abe’s Super Market in Ames, Ellwell Super Market in Ankeny and at the Iowa Falls Care Center.

Lela was a long-time member of the Fjeldberg Lutheran Church (Huxley) and was also a member of the Iowa Falls Church of the Nazarene. She was currently a member of the Stratford Lutheran Church.

She loved sewing and made more than 150 quilts for babies born in her extended family, cooking, spending time with her children, brother and sisters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, and taking part in the annual Knox family camp out and the Knox family Christmases.

She and her six sisters were members of the Red Hat Society and each was nicknamed after one of the Seven Dwarfs. She also enjoyed collecting state and city/country spoons from around the world.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl; a son, Roger Carl; brothers John (Jack), Charles (Chuck) and Donald; brothers-in-law Gerald Blair, Lyle Smith, Charles Fleming, and Dale Nemechek; and sister-in-law Lois Knox.

She is survived by son William “Bill” (Judy) Haglund of Waukee; daughter Andrea Janelle (Dan) Walker of Webster City; sisters Ruth Blair, Sarah Fleming and Gladys (Mike0 Bell, all of Iowa Falls, Esther (Bill) Murray and June Nemechek, both of Dayton, and Audrey (Elzy) Johnson of Wooldstock; sister-in-law Martha Knox of Woolstock; daughter-in-law Deb Haglund of Iowa Falls; eight grandchildren, Karin (Bryan) Worth of Crystal City, Mo., Karl (Jenna) Haglund of Charles City, Roger (Lana) Haglund of Iowa Falls; Robert Haglund of Pittsburgh, Pa., Andrea Gordon of Webster City. Matthew McConnell of Upland, Inc., Lori (Jeff) Konzen of Grimes, and Brent Long of Grimes; 14 great-grandchildren, Micha and Annika Work of Crystal City, Mo., Anders Haglund of Charles City, BreAnn and Brendelyn White of Iowa Falls, Baylen Haglund of Iowa Falls, Emilyn, Mikayla, Andrew and Aeden Haglund of Pittsburgh, Pa., Tyler and Kyle Konzen of Grimes, and McKenzie and David Long of Adel.
