Arthur Theodore Johnson was born in Lost Grove Township, Webster County, Iowa, February 15, 1878 and died November 4, 1938, at the age of 60 years 8 months and 20 days.
He was a member of the Harcourt Lutheran church from the time of its organization, in which he served as deacon and trustee at various times.
He was united in marriage to Esther Tolin (Toline), December 9, 1914. One son, Lauren Theodore , was born to them.
He leaves to mourn his death his wife and son, one brother, Martin, of this comunity, one sister, Mrs. Hannah Reppert, of Des Moines. Five nieces, three nephews beside other close relatives and a host of friends. His parents, one sister and one brother have preceded him in death.
His whole life was spent in this community and while his health had been failing the last three years his sudden passing away came at a distinct shock to his family and friends. He was always a kind and loving husband and father.
Funeral services were held for Mr. Johnson from the home Monday, November 7th at 1:30 P.M. and from the local Lutheran Church at 2 o'clock with Rev. H.W. Lindstrom, his pastor in charge of the services. At the home, Rev. Herbert Johnson sang "Old Rugged Cross" and a brief service was held. At the church, filled with friends and neighbors and acquaintances present to pay their repect to their friend, and say their farewell and in sincere sympathy to those he left here below, they had gathered. Rev. Lindstrom spoke words of comfort; his theme "The Abiding Love of God" a mixed quartette, Mrs. Harold Castenson, Inez Peterson, Carl Ehen and Milo Peterson sang "Rock of Ages" and Rev. Herbert Johnson of Odebolt sang "Have Thine Own Way". Pallbearers were J.G. Danielson, Martin Hade, L.E. Peterson, V.E. Gustafson, John R. Anderson and Walter Gustafson.
The floral tributes were many and beautiful. In place of flowers, many friends sent their gifts in memory of Mr. Johnson to "Bethphage Mission", Axtell, Nebraska. Internment was made in the Lost Grove Cemetery. Peace to his memory.

Lingwall of Brainerd, Minn.;Mr. and Mrs. Reynold Lingwall, St. Paul, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. O. Chellberg and Carl Chellberg of Omaha, Neb.; Mrs. Jennie Sandberg and Mrs. Elsie Stolt, Boone, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Charley Ericson and Dorothy, Mrs. Ralph Ericson and Mrs. Don Ericson of Ogden; Rev. and Mrs. Herbert Johnson of Odebolt and other friends from nearby communities.
