DEATH NOTICE:

BOSWELL, Johnnie Albert, 81, of Des Moines, Iowa, formerly of Leon, died May 17, 2007 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. Funeral services were held May 22 at Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon with Pastor Terry Roberts officiating. Burial was in Corydon Cemetery wit Military Honors by Russell E. Marshall American Legion Post #68 of Corydon.

Obituary

John Albert Boswell, 82, of West Des Moines passed away on Thursday, May 17, 2007, at Mercy Capitol Hospital in Des Mones, Iowa.

John was born on February 22, 1926 in Corydon, Iowa, the son of Cleo [Wilkie] and Elmer Boswell. He grew up in Corydon and attended Corydon High School. On February 18, 1944 he entered the United States Navy and was honorably discharged on May 18, 1946 after serving in the Pacific theater of battle during World War II.

Following his discharge, he returned to Corydon where he and Jacquelene Hodges were married on June 8, 1947. They moved to Fairfield, Iowa where he was employed by Hy-Vee. To this union was born on daughter, Stacie. In 1951 they moved to Leon, Iowa where he purchased and managed the Bus Depot Cafe'. He ran the business in Leon until June 1971 when they moved to West Des Moines. John was then employed by the Greyhound Bus Station, where he has worked for the past 36 years.

He enjoyed attending Hawkeye football games and was an avid fan of the Chicago Bulls. He was a charter member of the Leon Golf and Country Club. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and was fond of spending time with his family and coffee group, affectionately known as "Johnny B's Gang."

John is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jackie; his daughter Stacie Smith and his son-in-law Mark; his 4 grandsons: Tyler and his wife Tara, Abe, Ben and David; and brother-in-law Bob Hodges and wife Judy.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
