Elsie Jane Smith, 89, passed away February 23, 2013, at her home in Des Moines. She was born October 15, 1923, in Wayne County, Iowa, daughter of James and Bertha (Tuttle) Hawkins.
Elsie is survived by her daughters, Pat Smith, Marjorie Smith (Larry), Linda (Denny) Ortlund, and Donna Smith; sons, Bradley (Maggie) Smith and Randy Smith (Renee); four grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, five step-great-grandchildren and one step-great-great grandchild; as well as her sisters, Norma Hawkins, Arlene McKnight, and Louise Clark. She was preceded in death by husband, Edward, her parents, and ten siblings.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, February 28, 2013, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines, with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home.
