Obituary ~ Kathryn Lucille (Alley) Coffey Renoe

Kathryn Lucille Coffey Renoe, age 93, of Garden Grove, Iowa, the daughter of Thomas Clinton and Mary Evelyn (Davis) Alley, was born July 11, 1921 in Wayne County, Iowa west of Allerton. She passed away at the Corydon Nursing and Rehab Center in Corydon, Iowa on Sunday, November 23, 2014

Kathryn was raised in Wayne County, Iowa and attended a one-room country school until the eighth grade. She then attended Allerton High School where she graduated in 1939. On September 27, 1939, she married Max Mardis Coffey. They made their first home on a farm outside of Humeston, Iowa and later moved to their farm west of LeRoy where Kathryn has lived since. They were blessed with four children, Jake, Jack, Linda, and Randy. On December 17, 1967, Mardis died at age 47. In 1968, Kathryn went to work at the LeRoy School as a cook and continued serving the local children lunch for the next fourteen years until her retirement in 1982. It was at the school she met Roy M. Renoe. They were married in the summer of 1978 and enjoyed their time together until his death on April 23, 2003.

Kathryn and Roy enjoyed wintering in Apache Junction, Arizona. Kathryn went alone for several years after Roy’s death. Kathryn was an active member of the LeRoy Presbyterian Church for 63 years and was recently awarded Special Elder Recognition. She loved to listen and dance to live music, ride her exercise bicycle, cook and play cards. Family and church were her priorities.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husbands, Mardis Coffey and Roy Renoe; son, Jack Coffey in 1996; son-in-law, Denny Clifton in December 2013; step-son, Richard Renoe; siblings, Ethel Bettis, Geneva Kellow, Jesse Alley, Dale Alley, Carol Alley, and Thomas Alley; and in-laws, Willard Bettis, Shorty Kellow, Joy Alley, Leona Alley, Iris Alley, Homer and Helen Coffey, Glen and Juanita Coffey, and Dean and Ila Rickert.

Survivors include her children, Jake and Mary Coffey of Weldon, Iowa, Linda Clifton of Albany, Missouri, and Randy Coffey of Garden Grove, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Ivy Coffey of Russell, Iowa; grandchildren, Carla Sullivan, Mark Coffey, Scott Coffey, Kyle Coffey, Sandra Piatt, Jim Coffey, Marty Clifton, Matt Clifton, Mandi Seetin, Joshua Coffey, Jamie Pellymounter, and Jesse Coffey; 24 great grandchildren; two stepchildren, Mary Karen Ward of Arizona and James Renoe and wife Glenis of Norwalk, Iowa; five step grandchildren; several step great grandchildren; brother, Bill Alley and wife Avenelle of Sewal, Iowa; sister-in-law, Lucille Alley of Zionville, Indiana; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at the LeRoy Presbyterian Church in LeRoy, Iowa at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 29, 2014 with Pastor Dale O’Connell officiating. Burial will be in the Humeston Cemetery, Humeston, Iowa.

Arrangements were through the Slade – O’Donnell Funeral Home of Leon and Lamoni, Iowa.

Memorials may be given to the LeRoy Presbyterian Church.
