Obituary

Alexander Shock was born in Pike county, Ohio, April 28, 1822, died in Wayne county, Iowa, March 12th, 1902, aged 79 years, 10 months 14 days. He was married June 18th, 1856, to Clarissa Inman, who was born in Washington county, Ohio, May 22, 1837, died April 1st, 1890.

To this union were born nine children, four sons and five daughters. Of whom seven are living, Mrs. Hetta Mabee, John, Andrew and James, Mary, Henrietta and Clara at home.

He came to Wayne county in the year 1853, and was the oldest settler living in the township. His sickness was of short duration, he being unconscious most of the time. All that loving children and kind friends and neighbors could do, was done to alleviate the pain and suffering of the last hours, but the angel of death came and carried his soul to a brighter home with God. In his death the family loses a kind, loving father, and the community one of its most respected pioneers. The esteem in which he was held was shown by the large concourse of friends and neighbors who assembled to pay the last respects to his memory.

The funeral services were conducted at the old home March 14, at 10 a.m. The interment took place immediately afterward in the Tharp cemetery.
