DEATH NOTICE:

HAYES, Nora Mae, 87, of Princeton, Missouri, (formerly of Mercer, Missouri), died on Tuesday, January 8, 2013, at Pearls II Eden for Elders in Princeton, Missouri. Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 11, 2013, at the Mercer Assembly of God Church, with Pastor Brian Burton officiating, under the direction of the Greenlee-Middleton Funeral Service of Lineville, Iowa. Interment was held in the Early Cemetery, south of Mercer, Missouri.

NORA MAE HAYES ... Nora Mae Hayes, daughter of Lloyd Andrew and Hazel Marie [Cox] Martin, was born in Mercer County, Missouri, on July 4, 1925, and passed away on January 8, 2013, at Pearls II Eden for Elders in Princeton, Missouri, at the age of 87 years.

Nora was raised in Mercer County and was a graduate of Mercer High School. On June 12, 1943, she was united in marriage to Murl Carl Hayes, and they lived most of their married life on a farm near Mercer where Nora was a hard working farm wife and loving homemaker. She also has worked for a short time at a packing plant in Omaha, Nebraska, shortly after their marriage. On April 23, 2003, Murl preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Murle Dean, Jimmie, Cliff, and Junior Martin; and by two sisters, Edna Lee Slater and Faye McCarty. She is survived by her son, Billy Hayes (and daughter-in-law, Paula) of Lineville, Iowa; one grandson, Bobby Hayes (and his companion, Carolene Joiner) of Mercer, Missouri; two granddaughters, Kimberly Hayes (and her companion, Brian Shields) of Lineville, and Pamela Hayes of Johnston, Iowa; seven great-grandchildren, Alex, Jacob, Braden, Logan, and Lexton Hayes, and Seth and Justin Shields; one sister Shirley Vanderpool (and brother-in-law, Marvin) of Bettendorf, Iowa; two brothers, Wayne Martin of Mercer, and Eugene Martin of Davenport, Iowa; an by one sister-in-law, Erma Martin, of Mercer.

Nora loved her family and was happiest when they were around her. She loved to cook, garden, and plant flowers. She was a member of the Mercer Assembly of God Church, and loved her church, her church family, and was a faithful member. She was also a 52 years member of the Ragan-Hickman American Legion Post #477 Auxiliary of Mercer.
