DEATH NOTICE:

VANDELL, Lois Virginia, 87, formerly of Humeston, Iowa, died on Thursday, January 17, 2013 at the Corydon Nursing and Rehab Center in Corydon, Iowa. Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at the Humeston Baptist Church in Humeston, Iowa, with pastor Brian Hargrave officiating. Interment was held in the Humeston Cemetery, Humeston, Iowa. Arrangements were through Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home of Leon and Lamoni, Iowa.

LOIS VIRGINIA VANDELL ... Lois Virginia Vandell, age 87, formerly of Humeston, Iowa, the daughter of Alva and Easter Floy [Abel] Williams, was born October 27, 1925 in rural Humeston. she left this life from the Corydon Nursing and Rehab Center in Corydon, Iowa on Thursday, January 17, 2013.

Lois graduated in 1943 as Valedictorian from the Humeston High School in Humeston. As a young woman she worked in the Humeston Bank.

On July 12, 1945, Virginia married Kenneth Greene Vandell at the Methodist Church Parsonage in Chariton, Iowa. To this union, two children were born, son Tracey Brent, and daughter Kim Jody. They made their family home in Humeston where Virginia was a stay-at-home mother until the 1970's when she became a Wayne County Home Health Aide, which she did for many years. She also delivered Meals on Wheels for many years.

Virginia was a lifelong member of the Humeston Baptist Church. She loved her church and was involved in the Women's Circle, teaching Sunday School, and cleaning the church. She loved the Lord and wore out several bibles reading His word. Virginia never complained and lived by the motto, "Just be happy." She enjoyed cooking, having slumber parties with the granddaughters, rice krispie treats, chocolate, and watching Lawrence Welk on TV every Saturday night. At the nursing home, she enjoyed Bible Study, Sunday evening church services, Bingo, and exercise time.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband Kenneth in January 2007; and brother Rex Williams. She is survived by her son Tracey Vandell and wife Barb of Humeston; daughter Kim Vandell and partner Vicki Rooney of Des Moines, Iowa; four granddaughters and five great grandsons: Missy & Tim Myers and sons, Reece and Gage of Humeston, Carly & Jason Voltz and son George and their expected baby in the spring, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Angie & Dustin Mathews and sons, Shay and Aydan of Osceola, Iowa, and Erika Harper and partner Leslie of Iowa City, Iowa; sisters, Reva Snyder and Glenys Mitchell, both of Humeston; brothers-in-law, Robert Vandell of Des Moines, Iowa and Boyce Johnson of Texas; sisters-in-law, Ruth Curtis of Chariton, Iowa and Mary Vandell of Humeston; and other relatives and friends.
