DEATH NOTICE:

MYERS, Wendel Melton, 60, of near Princeton, Missouri, died on Saturday, November 17, 2012 in Kansas City, Missouri. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at the Princeton United Methodist Church, under the direction of the Greenlee-Middleton Funeral Service of Princeton, Missouri, with Pastor Dan Stratmann officiating. Interment was held in the Princeton Cemetery.

The family requests memorial contributions to either the Princeton United Methodist Curch of to the Myers Family Foundation (For Rural Family Life), in lieu of flowers. Contributions may be mailed to the funeral home at PO Box 316, Princeton, Missouri 64673.

WENDEL MELTON MYERS ... Wendel Melton Myers, son of George Wendel and Felichia Valeta [Weaver] Myers, was born in Trenton, Missouri on February 18, 1952, and passed away on November 17, 2012, in Kansas City, Missouri, at the age of 60 years. Wendel was raised in Mercer County, Missouri, where he was a 1970 graduated of Princeton High School. In 1974, Wendel earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Philosophy and the Humanities from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville.

In 1975, Wendel began his career in telecommunications with Grand River Mutual Telephone Corporation of Princeton. He was a dedicated and devoted employee of Grand River and held various positions of increasing responsibility, becoming General Manager on January 1, 2004. He held this position until September 30, 2012, when he retired due to failing health. Wendel was highly involved in the communications industry. He served as a Director of Missouri Network Alliance, Bluebird Network, Northwest Missouri Cellular, Chat Mobility of Iowa, Communications Supply Service Association, Missouri Telecommunications Industry Association, and the National Telecommunications Cooperative Association Industry Committee. He represented Grand River Mutual in six cellular rural service areas.

Wendel was very active in the Princeton, Missouri, community where he was a member of the Princeton United Methodist Church, and as a Boy Scout Leader for several years. Wendel served on the Boards of The United Methodist Administrative Board as Chairman for several terms, on the Gene Kauffman Scholarship Foundation, the Princeton High School Alumni Endowment Association, and the Community Foundation of Northwest Missouri.

Wendel was united in marriage to the love of his life, Bobbi Overton, on July 7, 1979. Bobbi survives him of the home near Princeton. He is also survived by his daughter, Meredith Peace (and son-in-law, Jonathan) of Kansas City, Missouri; his son Zane Myers of Plattsburg, Missouri; mother-in-law, Phyllis Overton, and sister-in-law, Teri Jan Overton, both of Kansas City, Missouri; nephew Seth Baskett (and his wife, Angela of Peculiar, Missouri; grand nephews, Jaden and Landon Baskett; his aunt Mildred Weaver of Corydon, Iowa; and several cousins, other relatives and by many, many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
